Biography

Vicky studied for an undergraduate degree in Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Oxford (1994-1997).  She completed a doctorate in Palaeolithic archaeology at the University of Oxford in 2002 and has since worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher (Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, 2002-2004); Consultant and Honorary Research Fellow (Centre for Archaeology, University of Western Australia, 2005); and Lecturer in Palaeolithic Archaeology (University of Liverpool, 2005-2007) where she taught courses in human evolution and Palaeolithic archaeology.  In her current role at Eureka Archaeological Research and Consulting, UWA Vicky acts as a project manager, a lithic artefact specialist and coordinator of research and publication from the Consultancy.

Key Research

Vicky specialises in the analysis and interpretation of stone artefact assemblages and hunter-gatherer archaeology.  She has directed archaeological field projects in Europe, Africa and Australia.  Her particular interests lie in the interface between stone tool technology and social/cultural behaviour as she believes that this helps us to understand what it means to be modern humans!  Her work has incorporated studies of artefact assemblages recovered from surface contexts, experimental studies on the acquisition of stone tool-making skills in humans and the functional attributes of handaxe size and shape.  The indigenous archaeology of Western Australia offers Vicky an exciting new perspective on both the question of the relationship between stone tool technology and social/cultural behaviour and the possibility of more robust data sets from surface contexts.
